About Steve

Steve Hart – DJ and radio presenter

Steve is based in Auckland, New Zealand, and first got behind the mic at a hospital radio station in his native UK.

He was Southend Hospital Radio’s youngest radio host and spent 10 years fronting specialist programmes such as Spectrum Motown, listener request shows, and reading the news.

In the 80s he was approached to host shows at Radio Top Shop in Southend and worked there for three years, presenting shows and managing the station day-to-day. He also hosted the breakfast show at Basildon Radio.

Steve was resident DJ at leading night clubs across Essex, Kent and London; among them were Dr Zhivago’s, The Zero 6, Electric Blue, Nero’s 2000, Sam Lords, High Society, Woody’s and The London Hilton.

His pre-recorded dance-music shows were broadcast by more than one (land-based) pirate station in London and Essex.

After training to become a journalist he worked in the newsrooms at both Essex FM and BBC Essex.

He hung up his DJ headphones in about 1995, but dusted them off in 2013 to launch 80s dance music show The Pleasure Dome which ran for three years. The pre-recorded show was relaunched in January 2018 and covers dance club music from the 80s to today.
